Bad Day as a Caregiver? Forgive Yourself for Being Human
Dear Carol: I’ve spent the last week feeling guilty because I yelled at my mom. She’s been diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer’s and seems so normal most of the time, but because she has short-term memory lapses, she can frustrate herself as well as others. I should know better, but I forget she has a reason to be so forgetful. Does that make sense? Anyway, I apologized to her, and she said it was all right, but I still feel guilty. I need to learn to be more patient with her, but how does an innately impatient person go about this? – KD
