Caregiver Stories about Medical Experiences Increase Awareness
Dear Carol: In “Replacing the term ‘caregiver’ with ‘care partner’ helps preserve dignity,” you wrote about medical people who talk over older adults. Here’s my story: I sat in a doctor’s office with my 90-year-old sharp but physically frail father and continually had to redirect the doctor to my dad as the person who could answer the questions. I eventually suggested that I leave, after which the doctor got the message and talked directly to Dad. I would like to see more awareness. Thanks for letting me blow off steam. – RT
