Tips for Coaxing Someone with Dementia to Shower or Bathe
Dear Carol: How do people get a parent with dementia to take a shower or bath? I’ve argued with my mom. I’ve coaxed her. I’ve bribed her with treats. Yet when I say it’s time, she tells me she’s had her shower, even when she hasn’t had one for several days. I understand that she has no sense of time, but this is a practical matter. How long can she go without a shower before she has health problems? Any tips for in-between times? This is one of the most exhausting parts of dementia care that I’ve faced so far. – SR
