Medicare Open Enrollment Starts October 15: Watch for Changes in Prescription Plans
Dear Readers: Get ready for the phone calls. I’m not referring to annoying political calls, but the Medicare Open Enrollment calls, mostly scams. Oh, and mail, too. Remember to sign up for your chosen plans using Medicare.gov.
What to know:
There’s one vital change this year and that is the new cap on Medicare D drug plans. This is huge news for those who have high prescription costs. The downside? Medicare D plans and Medicare Advantage plans are both private plans, so the insurance companies are increasing premiums to cover their losses. These increases should be reasonable because government subsidies cover much of the money they’d otherwise have made. Open Enrollment starts October 15, 2024, and ends December 7. This is the only time people on original (traditional) Medicare’s Medicare D for prescription drugs and those who use a Medicare Advantage plan can change their options.
