Potential Caregiver for Aging Parents Asks How to Plan
Dear Carol: My 83-year-old parents are still doing well for their age but declining as would be expected. Since I live nearby, I’ll be their primary caregiver as needed. For planning purposes, I started researching and discovered your column. After reading a few from the past, I’m doubting my ability to be a good caregiver, especially if either of them develops dementia. Let’s say that patience isn’t my strongest asset. They’ve been wonderful parents. I feel parent care should be instinctive, but for me, it’s not! Can you give me thoughts on how to begin? – PL
Dear PL: You sound like a wonderful daughter, so start with that. Your love for them shines through, so I don’t doubt your ability.
