Relief Mixed with Grief Normal After a Suffering Loved One’s Death
Dear Carol: My mom died after five years of living with dementia symptoms along with decades of pain from rheumatoid arthritis. Her death has left me deeply grieving, yet at the same time, relieved her suffering is over. I felt good about my focus on caring for Mom over the years until I shared my mixed emotions with some people close to me and a few were appalled that I could feel relief. One person called me cold.
