Medicare Open Enrollment starts October 15: Plans Changing, Premiums Increasing
Dear Readers: Medicare annual open enrollment begins Oct 15, 2025, for 2026 coverage. My usual advice stands. Ignore the calls, look over the mail if you’d like, but only make changes through Medicare.gov or a licensed agency that is not tied to individual insurance companies. Remember: Don’t give your Medicare number to anyone who contacts you uninvited.
What to know
As I write this, details are still somewhat unclear, but I monitor the early information as best I can. This is what I see:
If you are on original (traditional) Medicare and paying for a Medicare supplement and Medicare D, your premiums will increase substantially. Medicare Part B increases are also significant.
If you are on an Advantage plan, look for increases in what you pay, if only because Medicare B is going up. Additionally, many will increase fees and co-pays and/or decrease perks. Due to rising healthcare prices, yearly price increases are expected. Still, sticker shock is predicted this year.
