Memory Lapses Have Caregiver Concerned About Her Brain Health
Dear Carol: My husband recently moved to memory care. While I’m still an active caregiver with visits and decision-making, I finally have some time to concentrate on my own health. For a 73-year-old female, I’m doing well, but I’ve been struggling with word recall. Worse, sometimes I forget if I’ve taken my medications or even checked my email. I make a lot of lists, but I’ve always been a list maker, so I don’t know if that’s a sign of slipping or not. There’s no hereditary dementia in my family and I don’t want to overreact. Even so, I want to take steps to protect my cognitive health if I can. Thanks for any information you can give me. – AH
